Those living in Newmains will get the chance to say thanks to locals who have helped make a difference to their community.
The village’s community awards dinner will recognise volunteers, young and old, as well as local businesses who have contributed to the various event within Newmains over the past 12 months.
The event, which takes place on November 11, is being organised by members of Newmains Community Council and the village’s Community Trust.
Community council member Karen Mitchell said: “We have various categories on the night so there will be plenty of awards to be handed out.
“It is something that we have been looking at doing for a while.
“During the pandemic there were numerous examples of people going out of their way to help people.
“This is one way of us all saying thank you for keeping us all going.”
The event will be held at the NCT Centre with proceeds from the event being used to purchase a life-saving defibrillator which will be housed at the centre.
Newmains independent councillor Robert John McKendrick said: “I am looking forward to this event.
“This will allow our community to give recognition and thanks to hard working individuals, groups and supporting businesses that have contributed in helping Newmains with various projects throughout the year.
“Money raised at the event will go towards a defibrillator for the NCT centre. I would like to see this become an annual event.
“Our community council work hard throughout the year raising funds for Christmas lights and organise the Remembrance Day service in conjunction with NCT centre as well as dealing with all the other local issues and concerns.
“We have many hard-working volunteers in the village, and we should recognise and support their efforts.”
Tickets for the awards night, which includes a dinner and entertainment, costs £20 and are available by contacting the community council via its Facebook page.
