A Hamilton woman was badly hurt and scarred for life when her partner smashed a mirror over her head.
Robert Scott, 28, appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted assaulting the woman to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement at her home in Hillside Crescent on May 13 last year.
Scott punched and kicked the woman before striking her on the head with a mirror, knocking her unconscious.
He was the subject of two bail orders at the time.
Scott had been held in custody since an initial court appearance in May and his solicitor, Stephen MacBride, suggested a community payback order could be imposed rather than more jail time.
Mr MacBride told the court: "Such orders have been tried before, but there now appears at last to be some maturity on Mr Scott's part, especially since the death of his father earlier this year.
"A community sentence would let him continue to engage with social workers who would provide him with structure and advice."
Sheriff John Speir noted that Scott appeared to have "made progress" while in prison.
He told the accused: "It's finally balanced, but I'm persuaded that a community-based sentence is appropriate."
Scott was placed under supervision for 18 months.
He will also be electronically tagged for 12 months, meaning he can't leave his home between 7pm and 7am each day.
