Two Motherwell and Wishaw politicians are teaming up to host events aimed at helping with the cost of living crisis.
Clare Adamson MSP and Marion Fellows MP will host an event in each of the two towns with experts and community organisations on hand to talk to residents about finances and available support in response to increasing pressure on the cost of living.
The events will take place on Friday, September 9, at LAMH Wellbeing Centre and Café, Wishaw, and then September 30 in the Craig Suite, Dalziel Building, Motherwell.
Both events will run on a drop-in basis from 10.30am to 2pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
Ms Adamson said: “Constituents are contacting us afraid of what lies ahead. Marion and I are determined to help people across Motherwell and Wishaw get the support they need.
“The organisations we have invited were selected to cover a range of problems that people might be facing as the cost-of-living crisis continues.
“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend: young and old, employed, and unemployed, single people and families – these events are for our entire community.
“Things are tough right now and people are facing huge pressures – but there is help out there. Please come along and explore the support networks available. We are on your side.”
Attendees will be able get advice on topics including energy costs, benefit entitlements, personal finances, and returning to work, as well as local organisations ranging from employment services to animal charities.
Organisations taking part include the Scottish Social Security, Citizens’ Advice Bureau, SSPCA, Wishaw and Motherwell Credit Unions, Christians Against Poverty, Warmer Homes Scotland, CLD Bus Pass Applications and local food banks as well as Routes to Work and Remploy to give earnings and employability advice.
Among the local groups taking part are Dallies Community Larder, Uniform exchange, Lanarkshire Baby Bank, LAMH and Miracle Foundation to share how their vital work can assist residents.
Mrs Fellows added: “People are worried how they are going to survive in the coming months. Whether it is the soaring cost of household gas and electricity, filling their cars with petrol or diesel, or simply just finding money to put food on their family’s table.
“We hope these events will equip local residents with the information they need to tackle the rising cost of living, in the absence of meaningful action from the UK Government.”
