Lanark police station is set to close for 12 weeks as refurbishment works are about to get underway.
Police Scotland this week alerted local residents of the closure which will come into effect this coming Monday, May 30.
It’s understood people in the Clydesdale area have raised concerns over being unable to access the police office in person over the summer.
However, local cops and politicians have assured the public that help will still be available in the area, with officers stationed nearby.
The building situated at West Port in the town is in need of "significant renovation" in order to make it a safe and suitable place to work for the force.
Speaking to Lanarkshire Live this week, Superintendent Andy Thomson said: "Police Scotland inherited an aging property estate, much of which remains in need of significant renovation and investment.
“From Monday, May 30, Lanark police station will be closed to the public for 12 weeks as refurbishment work is carried out.
“This maintenance is essential to ensure a safe and fit-for-purpose work environment for our officers and staff.
"The station will remain staffed and fully operational throughout this time and we will continue to provide a visible, accessible policing presence in Lanark and across Clydesdale that is fully engaged with the citizens and communities we serve.
“If during this time you require police assistance, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency or speak to any officer.”
At the building, signs have appeared to advise the front desk is already closed, however during the refurbishment works, officers will still be stationed in the town.
The closure means that Larkhall will temporarily become the nearest police station to Lanark.
Commenting, Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley said: “I understand my constituents concerns that Lanark police office will be closed to the public during its refurbishment, however, uniformed officers will continue to be stationed there during this short period.
“The best advice for the public is in non-emergency situations to contact 101 where they can either be provided with advice, or report non-emergency crimes. In the event of an emergency call 999 and request the police.
“If a member of the public requires to visit a police office in-person during this refurbishment, I am advised there are also other options whereby offices at Larkhall, Wishaw and Hamilton all still have operational front rooms which are open to the public.”
And MSP for Clydesdale Màiri McAllan added: “I have liaised with the local community policing team in Lanark, and while the Lanark police office during its refurbishment will be closed to public access, uniformed officers will continue to be stationed there during this short period.
“The best advice for the public is in non-emergency situations to contact 101 where they can either be provided with advice, or report non-emergency crimes.
“In the event of an emergency call 999 and request the police."
