Lanarkshire police highlight success in tackling crime in the Clydesdale area

Lanarkshire police division has highlighted an annual review of work carried out in the Clydesdale area to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

At the Clydesdale Area Committee meeting on Wednesday (August 17) Chief Inspector Tony Gallagher and Inspector Paul Doyle from Lanarkshire Police shared the efforts of officers in tackling issues in the area.

A range of key priorities were outlined, including reducing violence and disorder, protecting people at risk of harm, housebreaking and theft and reducing harm caused by substance misuse.

The police have reviewed and improved policing patrol plans to reduce violence and disorder, and there has also been additional high visibility foot patrols. On top of this, scrambler bikes have been used in some areas to target offences and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Several multi-agency meetings have also taken place with partners in social work, education, health and youth workers to tackle a variety of issues.

For protecting people at risk of harm, officers have engaged with local groups such as The Kirkton Church Scout Group in Carluke to discuss community issues and how police support the community.

Following speeding complaints made by local councillors, a UNIPAR speed gun has been purchased allowing officers to tackle road traffic crimes.

The police carried out three days of action which led to several fixed penalty notices being issued.

To tackle theft in the area, officers had several days of action to reduce the number of theft of fuel which led to multiple vehicles being stopped and a number of detections.

The police also worked hard to reduce harm caused by substance misuse in the area by recovering large quantities of drugs.

Councillors at the meeting thanked the police for tackling antisocial behaviour and crime.
