LaFontaines frontman Kerr Okan made a guest appearance on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show this morning (Friday) to discuss who should ultimately have the final decision on a baby’s name.
The Motherwell musician’s pregnant wife Storm Huntley is co-presenter on the programme.
The couple are expecting a baby in the coming weeks and the 35-year-old mum-to-be only returned to the show last Monday after testing positive for Covid.
Storm revealed the couple do have a name but wouldn’t yet reveal what it is.
Jeremy Vine posed the question that if a couple disagree on a name then who should have the deciding vote?
Storm, who is due to start maternity leave in just over a week, revealed that Kerr had already ruled out a number of her favourite names for their baby – a boy.
She then pulled out a board with three names; Axel, Cosmo, and Phoenix.
Kerr was then asked why each of the names were ruled out. When asked about Axel he said it sounded as if its middle name “should be exhaust or something”, and remained silent while looking at the others on the show when asked why he objected to Cosmo. He then suggested that Phoenix, which his wife thought was a “great name”, was an appropriate name for “a stripper”.
Kerr said: “It has to be something that I am comfortable with shouting in the park. Obviously I’m called Kerr and Storm is Storm, it’s not going to be called Gary is it! It’s not going to be like a conventional name but similarly we can’t have it sounding like one of the Avengers.”
Storm added: “I am allowed to get the final say. However, he has vetoed some names that I thought were fabulous.
“He didn’t like any of the names that I really liked and I had to pick something he isn’t going to veto.”
Kerr also revealed that he’s been practicing installing the baby car seat and is well prepared for nappy changes.
He did concede that Storm would have the final say, telling her: “Having seen what you’ve went through the last 38 weeks and what you’ve gave up and sacrificed, if you do want to call it Phoenix, then...”.
The couple tied the knot at a ceremony at Loch Lomond in September 2021 and celebrated with a reception in the garden of his parents’ home in Motherwell a few days later.
