A Larkhall mum twice disarmed her drugged up son after he grabbed knives from the kitchen.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week how David McIntosh later threatened to shoot police officers
The serial offender appeared from custody via videolink.
He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at his mum Elaine's home in Dalserf Path on July 18 last year.
An allegation that he had possession of cocaine was dropped.
McIntosh, 39, had been released from prison only a month before the incident.
Alice Carey, prosecuting said he arrived at the house around 6pm and Mrs McIntosh wouldn't let him in because of his intoxicated state.
Eventually she relented but an argument started with the accused "shouting and swearing in her face".
Ms Carey told the court: "He got a knife from a kitchen drawer and tried to make his way outside, but his mum managed to grab the knife from him and contacted the emergency services.
"She then saw him again take a knife and place it in the front of his trousers.
"She again took the blade off him before police officers arrived and arrested him.
"During the journey to Motherwell police station McIntosh shouted and swore at the officers, telling them 'Get these f.....g handcuffs or you're getting shot. I'll find out where you stay'.
"He also lunged towards a civilian worker at the police station."
Defence agent Ian Scott said McIntosh has "laboured under a street Valium addiction for some time".
The lawyer stated: "He was seeing a drugs worker, but that wasn't having the desired effect.
"On his release from prison he went back to live with his mother, but she runs a tight ship and doesn't tolerate the taking of drugs.
"What he remembers of this incident is sketchy, but his mother has forgiven him and would welcome him back."
Sheriff Thomas Millar noted that McIntosh has been given several jail sentences in recent years.
The Sheriff continued the case until next month "to see if some assistance can be given to stop your offending".
McIntosh, who has been in prison since July, was again remanded in custody.
