A knife-wielding raider who stole cash and an appointments diary from a nail salon has been jailed for 28 months.
When greedy James Rooney was handed a pile of banknotes, he asked a terrified employee 'Is that all you have?'.
Rooney, 32, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week. He admitted assault and robbery at Vanity nail salon in New Stevenston Road, Carfin, on January 31.
Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said there were two members of staff and one customer in the premises when Rooney turned up at 4.45pm.
His face was partially covered by a scarf and the fur around the hood of his jacket.
Ms Mathieson told the court: "He brandished a large kitchen knife towards the witnesses, saying 'Give me the money'.
"A female lifted about £80 from a drawer and placed it on the counter.
"Rooney asked 'Is that all you've got?' before picking up the money and a large black diary with details of appointments.
"He left the salon and was seen walking towards a park."
It was two months before he was arrested and he has been in custody since.
Defence agent Diarmid Bruce said Rooney, who has previous convictions of a similar nature, had a difficult background marked by a number of family tragedies.
The lawyer stated: "He had difficulties with Valium and alcohol.
"His recollection is not great but he is disappointed with himself for getting involved in this.
"No one was injured but he knows it is unacceptable behaviour."
Sheriff Michael Higgins backdated the 28-month sentence to April as Rooney has been in custody since then.
He will be supervised for six months on his release from prison.
