Lanarkshire locals urged to step up to raise cash for diabetes charity

A sponsored step challenge which raises vital funds for leading charity Diabetes UK returns this summer – and a call has gone out for people from Lanarkshire to sign up.

The One Million Step Challenge, sponsored by Fitbit, runs between July 1 and September 30 and tasks participants with completing a massive one million steps over three months – around 10,000 a day.

Participants can take on the challenge from their own doorstep, at their own pace.

All funds raised will go towards Diabetes UK’s work funding life-saving research and ensuring everyone living with diabetes gets the care and support they need.

Actor and Diabetes UK supporter Nina Wadia OBE, whose credits include EastEnders, Citizen Khan, Strictly Come Dancing and The Outlaws, is encouraging people to take part in the challenge.

Nina said: “It’s always good to get moving, whether that’s a quick walk, or a whizz around the dancefloor. I’m supporting Diabetes UK’s One Million Step Challenge, as it encourages us to do just that.

“You can get more active and feel great, while raising money for a fantastic cause - one very close to my heart.

“The challenge is for every body, and everybody. So this summer, join thousands of others in taking one million steps over three months.

“Steps for your body, and steps for everybody affected by diabetes.”

People taking part can take part anywhere from their local park to their living room, alone or with family, friends, or colleagues.
