Lanarkshire kids charity begs for volunteers as 'demand at all time high'

A charity helping Lanarkshire's poorest families made a desperate appeal for volunteers as 'demand for service is at an all time high'.

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Care in North Lanarkshire shared the urgent plea on July 3. The registered charity runs a baby bank, school uniform bank and community cafes for the area's most vulnerable.

Running since 2016, the lifeline organisation needs kind locals to help sort through donations, organise stock and make up referral packs.

A representative said: "We would really love to welcome some new volunteers to our team. There is just so much to do, with demand for our service at an all time high.

"We particularly struggle over the school holidays, as most of our volunteers have young children and also because it's holiday time and people are away on holiday. So if you can spare some time over the next few weeks, and beyond too if you can, please get in touch.

"We're looking for people who can commit to a regular, or even semi-regular, slot. We have a range of tasks that people can help with, including sorting through donations, organising stock and making up referral packs.

"If this sounds like it might be for you, and you can commit to helping on a regular basis, even for few weeks, please get in touch."

The School Uniform Bank provides school uniform free of charge to those families most in need in the area, through a system of referrals. Packs provided to children and young people consist of new and pre-loved items.

The charity is also developing a uniform exchange system. Meanwhile the baby bank delivers support to parents and carers of young children in the area who need a little help.

This help is primarily in the form of a 'starter pack' for babies, which is presented as a gift from the local community. Other items for young children are also provided, again based on referrals.

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Care is based at 6 Annan House, Central Way, Cumbernauld, across the road from the town's shopping centre.
