Lanarkshire gym celebrates first birthday by raising £4k for charity

An award-winning Lanarkshire gym celebrated its first birthday in style, raising over £4000 for local charities.

A2B Fitness welcomed around 80 guests to Hamilton Accies' stadium on Saturday for a night of celebration and fun.

Generous donations saw £3500 raised for Blameless Charity and a further £500 for My Support Day.

Personal trainer Audrey Beljaflah says she was blown away by the love and kindness shown on what was a fantastic night.

Audrey only opened her gym last year but it has gone from strength to strength ever since, and in July it was named Scottish Gym of the Year 2022 at the Scottish Health and Fitness Awards.

The Hamilton business has also been widely acknowledged for its tremendous work for the community and raising funds for local causes.

On the night, money was raised through ticket sales, raffles, and games for people to take part in, as clients, friends and family were also treated to live entertainment from Scots comic Gary Little.

Blameless Charity also paid special tribute to Audrey and A2B Fitness by presenting a community champion award.

"It was great", Audrey told Lanarkshire Live. "The gym got awarded a community champion award by Blameless as well which was nice.

"It was a big celebration of our first birthday which was September 1 and on the night was also exactly three years since my own first ever boot camp. It was just a great night all round.

"Seeing everyone donating was absolutely incredible. Everybody did amazing. The raffles alone raised around £1250.

"The nail on the head for me was seeing my family present. Everybody's been so supportive."

Audrey continued: "We're not just a gym, It was so nice to be able to see everyone and see where we're going, and be able to give back to charity.

"I'd just like to thank everybody who made that night possible, especially Hamilton Accies Functions who were able to put everything on and make it all run so smoothly.

"We started off with small events and I remember when we raised our first £500 I was absolutely delighted, and it's just increased every year. To now see us smash £4000 I'm just so overwhelmed as always.

"My clients have been fantastic and I didn't realise how much I play a part in their lives, just as much as they play a part in my life."

The gym now looks ahead to running more community events such as their Christmas fayre on December 10. It invites small local businesses to come in and set up their stalls.

And they will also be running their Christmas pyjama appeal again which proved a success last year.
