Lanarkshire gym approved to host professional bouts by British Boxing Board of Control

A Lanarkshire boxing gym has been approved to host professional bouts through the sport's UK governing body.

Rivals Gym in Wishaw is run by brothers Scott and Sam Allan and is situated on the town's Main Street.

The gym has been approved to host bouts through British Boxing Board of Control promoters and will be able to hold crowds of 350 all seated at tables, 100 VIPs tabled, with 400 standard seats and 600 all standard seating.

Scott Allan was pleased with the news and has said that this will open new doors and give an opportunity to the town.

A boxer himself, this means he now has the chance to fight on his home turf to a crowd of hometown fans.

He told Lanarkshire Live: "Being affiliated with the BBBoC to host professional boxing events is a massive achievement for the gym and the area.

"There aren’t any venues to our knowledge within Lanarkshire granted the same status. We love bringing fight nights to the town and this just means we can offer the community an opportunity to come, see and be a part of some special fight nights going forward.

"I’d love nothing more than to fight in my hometown with a huge support behind me in my own venue - not everyone will get that opportunity."

Scott said that the process to become approved was simple and the gym only had to make a few changes.

He added: "They came to see our facility and said it was all up to scratch. There were only a few changes we had to make but that was fine.

"It is such an honour for our gym to be able to host these bouts now. We have a lot of young guys who are ready to take part in professional fights and to be able to host them in Wishaw is humbling."
