Amateur golfers went a fairway to helping people who have epilepsy as a charity foundation smashed through the £100,000 fundraising mark.
The Funky Natz Foundation, which was set-up by family and friends in memory of 11-year-old Natalie Hughes who died suddenly in March 2011, raised £13,743 at it’s annual tournament at Wishaw Golf Club.
The Lanarkshire girl’s tragic death was unexplained but as she suffered from epilepsy her family decided to start raising money for Epilepsy Scotland in her name.
The tournament made a triumphant return following a hiatus due to Covid and the foundation has now raised more than £112,000 for the charity since its launch.
There were some fantastic prizes on offer as the eager golfers teed off, none more so than a brand new Renault Clio.
Unfortunately, no one hit a hole-in-one to drive off in the prize car.
Natalie’s uncle, Iain Cairns, is a member of the foundation’s committee.
He said: “The closest we had at that hole was about 10ft. We had someone who nearly won a set of golf clubs at the eighth, he was only a foot-and-a-half away, that was the closest. There were great prizes at all the short holes but no one was close for the car.
"It was a great day. The weather held up, it was cold but not freezing cold and it wasn’t raining, so that’s all we can ask for. Everyone enjoyed the day and the food was fantastic. There are people booked for next year already and we’ve booked the course for next year too.”
Iain thanked Park’s Motor Group, Cooper Brothers in Newmains, KPP Accountants, Natgem, Halls Coaches, and Watson Towers, who helped to make the day such a huge success.

The Funky Natz Foundation Committee also thanked those who helped out and took part: “It was great to see the faces of so many loyal supporters returning yet again to take part and equally pleasing to see a lot of new faces taking part too.
“We really can’t thank everyone enough. Everyone who donated prizes, everyone who made cash donations, everyone who entered our raffle and all the players who took part on the day.”
