Lanarkshire duo take on 24-hour fitness challenge for suicide prevention charity

A dynamic Wishaw duo are taking on a monster fitness challenge in aid of a Wishaw-based suicide prevention charity.

Avryl Henry, 33, and 32-year-old Lyndsay McManus will be taking on the lung-bursting 24 hour workout at Rivals Gym in the town in aid of Chris’s House.

The pair will start at midday on Friday and will be on the go until noon on Saturday with a little help from friends along the way.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live this week, Avryl said: “We were training one night and Lyndsay said she was up for it so we started making plans.

“We both train down at Rivals and we have been able to get a timetable of activities and have a lot of people coming down to help us.

“Over the 24 hours we will have professional boxers and kickboxers doing sessions while we will also be doing circuits, yoga and even a 4am walk. While we are doing the challenge at Rivals the support from other gyms in Wishaw has been great.

“We have the guys from Protein Jakes coming down to help us out and there has been a lot of people who are wanting to do a session with us.”

Taking on such a challenge for the suicide prevention charity is a cause close to Avryl’s heart.

Five years ago, the 33-year-old was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and has credited hours spent at the gym as helping her through her ordeal.

She said: “I suspected something was wrong for about 10 to 15 years but when I was diagnosed it was really difficult.

“I don’t think I would be in the position I would be in today if it wasn’t for the gym and working out.

“I got signed off from work for a year after my diagnosis, coming to the gym literally saved my life.

“Through the people I met and the training I have been off my medication so it has been life-changing for me.

“I now have my own business restoring classic cars and I’m enjoying life.”
