Lanarkshire community groups celebrate 'Keep Scotland Beautiful' success

Groups from across South Lanarkshire gathered to celebrate their successes in the 'Beautiful Scotland' and 'It's Your Neighbourhood' initiatives.

Bonnie Blantyre was delighted to host the event, with founder Dr Susan Lindner-Kelly welcoming volunteer members from Blantyre Miners Community Garden; Brighter Bothwell; Burn Road Action Group; Carluke Meadow; East Mains Community Council; Fernbrae Meadows Allotments Association; Flourishing Forth; Flourishing Forth - Eco Site; Friends of Douglas Park; Friends of Holmhills Wood Community Park; Friends of the Calder; Grow 73; Uddingston Pride (now called Grow Uddingston); Lanark in Bloom; and TACT Healthy Park.

Dr Lindner said: "We absolutely love our town and the way that our community comes together to make good things happen.

"We were delighted to be able to host this afternoon of celebration and loved hearing about the wonderful work like-minded groups have been carrying out across South Lanarkshire over the past year.

"On a personal level, whilst we knew in advance of the event that we'd won gold for our town and also won gold in the large town category in the Beautiful Scotland competition, we were blown away to find out this meant we'd been awarded a trophy and rose bowl!

"We hope that everyone in Blantyre is very proud of the part they played on making this happen - go, team Blantyre!"

Juliette Camburn, Community Project Officer with Keep Scotland Beautiful said: "The celebration event for the groups we support through our Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood initiatives was a wonderful opportunity to say thank you for all the hard work the volunteers in each community do throughout the year.

"It was fantastic to be part of an afternoon of celebrating, sharing experiences, and to see everyone being inspired by each other…and of course, a massive thank you to Bonnie Blantyre and pals for laying on some delicious refreshments!

"We look forward to welcoming the groups back this year, and if other groups wish to join our free and friendly community growing group network, please email beautifulscotland@keepscotlandbeautiful.org."
