Lanarkshire carer shouted in woman's face and snatched plate of food while she was eating

A Lanarkshire support worker has been given a warning for shouting in a vulnerable woman's face.

Aileen O'Connor was working in Wishaw in April last year when a number of concerning incidents arose.

As well as shouting in a service user's face 'Where is that getting you?', she restrained the woman when she was showing signs of self-harm.

O'Connor also removed the person's dinner plate while she was still eating and on another occasion, removed a cup of coffee from her hands while she was still drinking it.

A report by the Scottish Social Services Council also revealed that she used a vape in the woman's home and took her wheelchair without permission.

The behaviour was described as placing the service user at risk of emotional and physical harm

Their report explained that there had been a previous incident of similar behaviour.

It added: "You shouted and physically restrained AA. In doing so, you placed AA at risk of emotional and physical harm

"You also removed a plate of food and a cup of coffee from AA while AA was still eating and drinking, demonstrating a lack of dignity and respect towards AA’s autonomy.

"You used vapes while within AA’s home. In doing this, you have not treated the AA with respect or maintained AA’s dignity. Finally, you removed an item of equipment from AA’s home. While you did replace this item once you had finished with it, you did not ask permission to borrow the item. Your behaviour falls short of what would be expected of a social care worker."

A warning was placed on O'Connor's registration for six months.
