Train services in Lanarkshire will stop this afternoon as Storm Dudley brings heavy rain and high winds to Scotland.
ScotRail will cease running service as a safety precaution, with gusts of around 90mph expected in coastal areas.
Domestic rail services will be wound down by 4pm when the worst of the stormy weather is expected to sweep across the country.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning active from 4pm on Wednesday across central and south Scotland and the north of England, with gusts potentially hitting 90 miles per hour.
The amber warning is due to expire at midnight on Wednesday, when it will be downgraded to a yellow warning until 6am on Thursday.
Storm Dudley is due to be followed by Storm Eunice later this week, which could bring snow.
Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: “We expect another period of disruption this week, with Storms Dudley and Eunice set to bring strong winds to Scotland,” he said.
“High winds may cause issues on roads and bridges, disruption to power supplies and danger from falling trees.
“We would urge everyone to plan their journeys in advance, exercise caution on the roads, and follow the latest travel advice.”
A 'danger to life' warning is in place for a large stretch of Scotland, with more yellow weather warnings set for today and later in the week.
Storm Dudley is sweeping in from the Atlantic with conditions already pretty unsettled this morning .
Winds are set to become "very strong and disruptive" as we head into this afternoon and continue to create chaos throughout tonight with an amber warning in place for parts.
Another yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by forecasters and will be in place from 12AM Friday until 9PM for some central and southern parts of Scotland.
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin has warned people to brace for "heavy rain and ever-strengthening winds".
He said: "It's going to be a windy day throughout with those winds continuing to pick up through the afternoon and the evening.
"There will be some snow on the hills across Scotland, but it's the rain and more particularly the wind we're concerned about in this storm system on Wednesday.
"It's likely to cause transport disruption and dangerous conditions by the sea."
