Lamine Yamal Happy to See Barcelona Stop Dropping 'Silly' Points

Barcelona ace Lamine Yamal has expressed his satisfaction after his team ended a three-game winless streak in La Liga. The Spaniard said it was “very important” to win against Mallorca, as the Blaugrana were dropping “very silly” points in the Spanish top flight.

Barcelona Return to Winning Ways With Thumping Victory Over Mallorca

Having dropped eight points in their last three La Liga matches — one draw and two defeats — Barcelona were keen to return to winning ways in their Matchday 16 meeting with Mallorca on Tuesday night, December 3.

Ferran Torres gave Barca the perfect start in the 12th minute, making the most of a defensive mishap and slotting the ball home from close range. They, however, could not carry the lead over to the second half, as Vedat Muriqi equalized for Mallorca in the 43rd minute.

Barca considerably improved in the second half and thoroughly outclassed their opponents away from home. Raphinha put Barca 2-1 from the penalty spot in the 54th minute before doubling their advantage in the 74th minute. In the 79th minute, substitute Frenkie de Jong made it 4-1. Finally, in the 84th minute, De Jong assisted Pau Victor for Barcelona’s fifth goal of the night.

Lamine Yamal Says Beating Mallorca Was ‘Very Important’

Yamal, who won the penalty and provided a brilliant assist to Raphinha with the outside of his boot in the 74th minute, was happy with the 5-1 victory on Tuesday.

Speaking to Esport3 after the game, the 17-year-old said (via Barca Blaugranes):

It was a very important victory after the two defeats in La Liga. It was very important to win with a result like that, and we are very happy.

We had been better in the first half, but we had to finish off the clear chances we had. We went out with that idea and it worked out pretty well for us.

He added:

It is a very important victory for the team, we needed to win again. In the Champions League we were doing very well, but in the League we were losing very silly points. The victory is very important for everyone and the goals for those who play less also give them a lot of confidence.”

Barcelona, who have a four-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of the table — albeit after playing two more matches — will return to La Liga action with a clash against Real Betis on December 7.
