Lamar Jackson sets ambitious target with new Baltimore Ravens receivers

Lamar Jackson has set himself lofty targets after signing the biggest contract in NFL history.

After almost two years of discussions, the two parties finally agreed on an extension for Jackson last week, despite the quarterback having requested a trade away from the Ravens.

Jackson had been unhappy not to receive his extension, but finally got it just hours before the first round of the NFL Draft.

Baltimore made Jackson an offer he could not refuse following Jalen Hurts being handed a five-year, $255million (£204.2m) deal.

It came just a few days after the Ravens signed Odell Beckham Jr, a player who Jackson wanted the team to sign - giving him the best receiver he will have played with throughout his career. The Ravens then followed that up by drafting explosive receiver Zay Flowers in the first round.

And with the new offense in place, Jackson admitted he had set himself goals for the season. He said: "I think I told someone like man I wanna throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have.

"And I’m not an individual award-type guy or a stat watcher, I just want to do that because no one’s ever done it and I feel like we have the weapons to do it."

That would be more than 500 yards further than the record, set by Peyton Manning with the Denver Broncos in 2013 - in what many believe to be one of the great offenses of all-time.

As well as adding the two receivers, the Ravens will also have a new offensive playcaller, bringing in Todd Monken from Georgia - off the back of winning consecutive National Championships.

Jackson also revealed that while he requested a trade, he truly wanted to remain with the team, but held out for the contract that he felt he deserved after representing himself as a free agent.
