Lake, swimming spots closed due to sewage contamination

Lake Tuggeranong is closed due to sewage contamination, City Services says.

All areas of Lake Tuggeranong have been closed to all water activities based on the advice from health protection services, the directorate said.

Tuggeranong Town Park, Nguru Beach, Ngadyung Beach, Mundang Beach and Lake Tuggeranong College recreational area are all closed.

"The lake is closed to all water activities pending water sample testing," City Services said.

"Action has been taken under section 22 of the Lakes Act 1976."

The lake is closed to primary and secondary contact recreation activities.

This means no swimming, diving, waterskiing, windsurfing, boating, fishing, canoeing, rowing and other similar activities.

Bacteria and blue-green algae monitoring in Canberra lakes stopped due to cold water temperatures, but is expected to resume in late September.

More to come.
