Getting laid off can feel overwhelming, especially in a challenging job market when the use of artificial intelligence is on the rise. But one software engineer explained in a social media post that a focused approach helped turn a sudden job loss into multiple job offers in a span of just 45 days.
In a Reddit post titled "Got multiple offers within 45 days of being laid off. Here's what I did," the engineer detailed how he/she bounced back after being among thousands affected by layoffs at Oracle and eventually secured three offers before accepting a role as an AI Engineer.

Laid Off, But Not Discouraged
The Redditor revealed that they lost their job at Oracle on March 31 as part of a large round of layoffs. Rather than dwelling on the setback, the person viewed it as a signal to intensify their job search and skill-building efforts.
"I got laid off by oracle on Mar 31 as with 30k others. Tbh I didn't think much about it. I was like cool, I have to lock in now." The engineer's approach focused on consistent learning, interview preparation and applying to jobs every day.

Daily DSA Practice Became a Priority
One of the first things they did was dedicate several hours each day to data structures and algorithms (DSA), a key area for technical interviews. "3-4 hours of dsa everyday. Neetcode mostly."
Platforms such as NeetCode have become popular among software engineers preparing for coding interviews, particularly at technology companies. The Redditor credited this consistent practice with helping them stay interview-ready throughout their job search.
Learning AI Engineering From Scratch
Alongside interview preparation, the engineer invested time in understanding one of the fastest-growing areas in tech: AI engineering. They spent around one to two hours daily learning the fundamentals, including transformers and attention mechanisms, while also building practical projects.
"I learned the basics of AI engineering from scratch along with understanding of transformers and attention. 1-2 hours everyday for around a month and I had 2 projects to showcase after this."
