Lady Gaga is tipped to clock up some huge air miles for a special one-night appearance at the upcoming BAFTAs amid speculation she will win the Best Actress award at the UK based ceremony.
The 35-year-old singer and actress is up for the top gong at the 2022 award, due to be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 13 March, for her role in House of Gucci.
Gaga was nominated for a BAFTA previously for her captivating performance in A Star Is Born I 2019 – but she snubbed the event in favour of attending the Grammy’s.
Now she is expected to hop on a plane to fly from Los Angeles to London to attend the 2022 ceremony where she hopes to scoop the Best Actress award.
A source told The Sun: "Lady Gaga's schedule was really hectic when she was nominated for A Star Is Born in 2019 and she just couldn't face the trip.
"But after the last two years of almost no showbiz events, she snapped up the invite to come to the biggest night in British film.
"She is one of the most famous women in the world, so Bafta bosses are chuffed she has confirmed she will be flying over for the ceremony.”
The source goes on to predict there is “every chance” she could end up winning on the night.
House of Gucci tells the tragic true life story of Patrizia Reggiani who married her way into the Gucci family before subsequently plotting to assassinate her husband, the late Maurizio Gucci.
Patrizia is currently behind bars for her part in Maurizio’s murder which shocked the world in 1994.
Lady Gaga’s performance as the convicted criminal has been met with acclaim from some critics – but strongly divided audiences at cinemas.
The star herself has explained the lengths she went to in order to achieve her performance taking a method actor’s approach and staying in character for the nine month production of the Ridley Scott directed film.
The singer explained that she would find herself vomiting due to “anxiety, fatigue, trauma, exhaustion, commitment and love” over her performance.
She also explained that the immersive performance took a toll on her mental health, telling Variety last year: “I had a psychiatric nurse with me towards the end of filming.
“I sort of felt like I had to. I felt that it was safer for me. That’s because I was always Patrizia.
“I always spoke in my accent. And even if I was speaking about things that weren’t related to the movie — I wasn’t pretending that Maurizio [her husband played by Adam Driver] was waiting for me downstairs — I was still living my life. I just lived it as her.”
However, some cinema goers were distracted by the singer’s performance as she showcased a comical and stereotypical Italian accent during her performance.
Alana Haim, Emilia Jones, Renate Reinsve, Joanna Scanlan and Tessa Thompson are the other performers hoping to claim the Best Actress award at next month's ceremony.
