Fresh off the back of her role in the poorly-received Joker: Folie à Deux and the release of its accompanying album Harlequin, Lady Gaga has released the lead single from her upcoming studio album.
Reminiscent of the darker brand of pop the singer championed earlier in her career, the new song - titled Disease - has been well-received by fans and critics alike and is set to be a part of the Grammy winner’s untitled album, which is set to be released in February 2025.
“I am in the studio every day. I have written so many songs, I’ve been producing so many songs, and it’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before,” she said of the album at the Los Angeles film premiere of the Gaga Chromatica Ball film earlier this year. “I love to break genre, and I love to explore music.”
As a new Gaga era begins, let’s take a look at the singer, songwriter and actress’ chart history in the UK over the years.
Albums
Breathing a new life into pop music with her eccentric, dance-ready electropop, Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, catapulted her to international fame in 2008 and has sold 3.4 million units in the UK. Since then, she’s explored darker electronic music with 2011’s Born This Way, teamed up with the late Tony Bennett for jazz albums Cheek to Cheek and Love for Sale. She even tried her hand at country with 2016’s Joanne.
In recent years, the singer - real name Stefani Germanotta - has become an involved in the film industry. Her contributions to the soundtrack for 2018’s A Star Is Born won her an Academy Award, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, while she’s also created music for Top Gun: Maverick and Joker: Folie à Deux.
