A much-loved dog narrowly avoided losing her eye after surgeons removed a grass seed lodged in her tear duct which started to grow. Labrador Annie had been suffering for weeks with eye problems, but her owners were mystified about what the problem was.
As reported by Leicestershire Live, the five-year-old dog, who lives with her owner Carol Probert in Shepshed, Leicestershire, was suffering so badly that mucus and pus was regularly coming out of her left eye. The eye itself was red and sore, but eye drops and antibiotics wouldn't clear it up.
It was only when Annie was taken to the Linnaeus-owned Park Vet Group’s hospital in Glenfield, Leicester, that a foreign body being lodged inside Annie’s eye or even her tear duct was thought to be the cause. Due to the size of the area involved, surgery was the only realistic option for solving the problem.
