LABOUR’S election campaign has not gotten off to a smooth start, safe to say.
First there was the major row over candidate selections, which has left a question mark hanging over Britain’s first black woman MP Diane Abbott.
Then the party’s flagship energy policy disintegrated on contact with reality today.
It's probably been a hard old time being a Labour spin doctor of late.
But you’d hope that they were still possessed of their faculties enough to know how to operate Google Maps.
It’s a good thing someone was, otherwise Keir Starmer’s private jet may have taken him about an hour’s drive away from where he had to be.
A press release with the words of Starmer’s speech landed in reporters’ inboxes this morning saying the Labour leader was “speaking at the launch of Labour’s six steps for change in Glasgow”.
Except he wasn’t in Glasgow, he was in Greenock, more than 20 miles down the Clyde westwards.
It even made it into the words of his speech, with the copy reading: “Anas, thank you for your friendship and your leadership here in Glasgow, along with Jackie and with Ian.”
So fixated on Glasgow was Starmer that he even gave a shout out to the excellent Sauchiehall Street Indian restaurant Mr Singh’s.
Luckily, when it came to it, Starmer instead thanked Anas Sarwar for his “leadership here in Scotland”. Better to keep it vague if you’re not sure of the specifics.
