Labour holding narrowest lead over Tories since Rishi Sunak became PM, poll suggests

Labour has its narrowest lead over the Conservatives since Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister, according to a new poll.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll on UK-wide voting intentions showed that Labour have a 14 point lead, which is three points less than last week.

The survey showed that Labour were on 44 per cent, compared to the Conservatives on 30 per cent. Labour had dropped by a percentage point while the Tories had increased by two per cent.

When those who say they don't know are included, Labour leads by 12 per cent.

This is the slimmest that the gap has been since before Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister

The survey of 2,000 voters was released on Monday evening.

It also found that the Lib Dems were on 10 per cent, which marked a drop of two points.

The right-wing Reform UK, which used to be the Brexit Party, had gone up by one point to six percent, as had the Greens to five per cent.

The SNP were down one point to three per cent of the UK-wide vote.

Some 13 per cent of the sample said they did not know how they would vote. This included 11 per cent of those who voted Conservative at the last election and five per cent of those who voted Labour.

Altogether, 87 per cent of those who voted Labour in 2019 said they would vote Labour again. Only 62 per cent of those who voted Conservative said they would do so again.

The poll also found that Sunak's net approval rating was minus eight per cent, although this was up three points from the previous week.

Labour leader Keir Starmer's net approval rating was down two points to plus eight per cent.
