A tribute to the late Queen and a rendition of the national anthem passed without incident at the opening of the Labour conference in Liverpool.
There had been fears that singing the anthem would be interrupted by republican-supporting delegates but the minute’s silence in memory of the Queen was observed before a people in the hall sang God Save The King and applauded.
Labour leader Keir Starmer had earlier paid tribute to the Queen, telling party members it “still feels impossible to imagine a Britain without her”.
