Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay will be having words with Roger Carter Jr after the NFL rookie slammed into him when rushing onto the field against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Carter Jr was only elevated from the practice squad this weekend ahead of their clash against the Chiefs, but had a nightmare inside the first quarter. The youngster was rushing onto the field while attempting to secure his helmet, and his right shoulder crunched into McVay's jaw.
Unsurprisingly, the Rams head coach was majorly rocked by the incident, as he immediately clutched his face - which was likely in absolute agony. And to make matters worse, Carter Jr's helmet also smashed into McVay's head, as the head coach got both barrels.
The 6'2 rookie tight end was clearly taken by the occasion and wasn't too careful of his surroundings as he entered the field from the sidelines. But moving forward, he may wait to put on his helmet, after the incident early into their clash with the Chiefs.
Carter Jr came from Georgia State, and signed for the Rams practice squad on September 1. Saturday was the first time that the tight end has ever been elevated in his NFL career, and it was for one of the biggest clashes of them all against the Chiefs.
But Carter Jr will be looking to put the incident behind him quickly, and focus on his future with the Rams. And judging by his performances for Georgia State last season, he has lots of potential.
The 23-year-old caught 20 passes for 323 yards last season, scoring two touchdowns. However, he went unselected in the NFL draft, and found his way to the Rams via a different route.
Following Tyler Higbee's initial questionable status ahead of Sunday, Carter Jr was called up. However, Higbee was named as active ahead of kick-off, and Carter Jr, took to the sidelines behind Brycen Hopkins.
The Rams have been hit with injuries this season, as quarterback Matthew Stafford may even be ruled out for the season, and star-man Cooper Kupp remains out. The last thing they need is for McVay to pick up a bad injury, even if he is head coach.
Like NFL players, McVay was looked over by medical professionals following the hit. The FOX broadcast announced a few minutes later that McVay was okay and cleared to resume his game day duties.
