Kym Marsh has revealed that there wasn’t a “dry eye in the house” when Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał won Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night, after claims of a “fix.”
The former Coronation Street actress took part in the BBC dance competition with her partner, Grazino Di Prima, and returned to the dance floor for the celebrity group dance in the final.
On Morning Live on Monday, Kym, 46, opened up about the very emotional behind the scenes reaction when the fan-favourite wildlife cameraman won the competition.
Gethin Jones said he watched the nail-biting finale from home to see if Hamza, Helen Skelton, Fleur East or Molly Rainford would take the title. He said: “But you [Kym] and Katya [Jones] were there to see Hamza and Jowita lift the glitter ball trophy. What a moment!”
“Yeah, it was amazing,” Kym agreed, “you know it was such a tense moment for them waiting to find out who the winner was, but it was incredible, just incredible.
Before she added that there “was not a dry eye in the house. It was fabulous.”
Gethin, 44, teased his co-host about her cameo in the group dance as she made a surprise appearance from a hospital bed straight onto the dance floor.
Decked in a coral sequin dress, Kym admitted this entrance was “possibly the strangest thing” she had ever done.
“This is possibly the strangest entrance I’ve ever made, ever, and the strangest thing I’ve ever done” she said, before she joked about her time in the ITV Popstars band and added: “and I was in Hear’Say so that’s saying something! Straight out of a hospital bed there you go.”
Hamza broke down in tears when it was announced that he had become the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2022 with newcomer, Jowita.
However, some fans slammed the outcome as a “fix” and claimed that he was the “worst of the night.”
One viewer took to Twitter and wrote: "What a fix! Hamza was the worst of the night #Strictly," as another added: " #Strictly A total fix bottom of the score board but wins? Shows the judges are clueless… we are all clueless… disgusting."
"No... Hamza can't dance,” a third penned, “Strictly is a fix. That's the BBC for you. I won't be watching it again. Helen & Gorka should've won. It's all wrong. It was sadly a foregone conclusion. Rigged.”
As fourth agreed: " #strictly @bbc put Hamza there as he is going to be the new Attenborough. He was hopeless tonight… what a fix," as another declared: "#Strictly is a fix z list person wins. Made mistakes in every dance was not good. BBC lost even more creditability."
