Kym Marsh has responded to speculation on whether she will return to Coronation Street as an acid attack storyline gets underway.
The Strictly Come Dancing star is best known for her role as Michelle Connor on the ITV soap, where she played the on-screen mum of Ryan Connor, played by actor Ryan Prescott. The ITV soap is currently airing a hugely dramatic storyline which sees Ryan become the victim of an acid attack after he protected Daisy from her evil stalker Justin.
The dramatic scenes unfolding have left viewers at home wondering if Kym will be reprising her role as Michelle to visit Ryan in the hospital as he recovers from the terrifying ordeal, reports the Mirror.
The soap has addressed Michelle's absence as Alya told Ryan in his hospital room: "I'm sorry your mum can't be here," as Ryan said: "It's fine, don't want any visitors anyway, don't want people seeing my face," before turning away from her.
It was later revealed Michelle wasn't able to come back to the UK because she was having an operation, but fans of the soap weren't satisfied by this explanation. Fans took to social media as they wondered whether Kym would make her return to the show for the important storyline.
Responding to fans, Kym has now confirmed that she has "no plans" to return to Weatherfield and reprise her role as Michelle. Speaking on ITV's Loose Women, Kym said she would be too busy to return at the moment because she is working on her stage show and looking after her daughter.
Angry fans fumed over Michelle absence from the scenes.
"#corrie It really doesn't make sense Michelle not being there for Ryan. They could easily bring in a new actress to be Michelle - it has been done so many times in Corrie - Gail's Nick has gone through a metamorphosis countless times!" one wrote.
A second added: "Michelle could visit Ryan off screen. Viewers can use their imagination. A stand in used from behind if needed. But unable to visit her son after an acid attack. Nah, not Michelle #corrie #coronationstreet."
"Surely Michelle would’ve come back to see her son?! #corrie," a third shared, with a fourth adding: "The saddest thing about Ryan’s attack is that he has no family on the street at all. We need Michelle! #Corrie."
Carla will be back to support Ryan in Michelle's absence as she no doubt plans to get her business back.
