Strictly Come Dancing 2022 contestant Kym Marsh recently denied having an 'unfair advantage' ahead of the BBC One competition given her experience in pop band, Hear'Say.
Kym, 46, said that although she toured the nation with the band who learned off choreographed dance routines for their live shows and music videos, she and her bandmates were simply 'faffing about' on stage, and never learned how to truly dance.
Following Kym's statement, it has now been reported that the former pop singer actually does have some professional dance experience, after she jokingly claimed that she had 'all the posture and grace of a Quaver'.
After the Coronation Street actress quit the pop band which catapulted her to global fame, she went on to star in the dance musical Saturday Night Fever in London’s West End, where she received some helpful dance lessons from none other than former Strictly judge, Arlene Phillips, according to The Sun.
Kym, who played the role of Annette on the West End show, showcased her moves to audiences for weeks on end back in 2012.
The revelation comes after Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood claimed that Kym had danced professional before.
The judge, 57, who has become famous for his blunt deliveries, said that he believes Kym will go far in the competition given her previous dance experience.
"Kym Marsh has danced before and I think she’ll fit in well," he told Best Magazine earlier this week.
However, the former pop star isn't so sure that she's ahead of everyone else, given that she hasn't danced professionally in over two decades.
Hitting back at Craig's comment, Kym insisted: "We’re talking 20 years ago faffing about on stage in Hear’Say.
“It’s a whole different thing, and even if that did count as experience in dance, this is ballroom.”
While some of the other Strictly 2022 contestants have zero experience when it comes to dancing - including Kaye Adams and Will Mellor - actress and singer Kym started dance lessons when she was just four-years-old.
She previously told Cheshire Life magazine: “I loved performing from a really young age. I was at dance school from the age of four but my parents didn’t realise I could sing until I was ten years old."
Despite this week's drama surrounding Kym's previous experience when it comes to busting a move on the dance floor, the former Hear'Say star is still one of the favourites to win the show.
Her fellow Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Helen Skelton, remains at the top of the leaderboard through, as bookies predict the Countryfile star will be the one to take home the coveted Glitterball trophy this year.
The Mirror have reached out to Kym's representatives for comment.
