Kylian Mbappe reveals 'talks' with David Beckham over MLS move

Kylian Mbappe of France celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the World Cup 2026 Group I match between France and Senegal at New York New Jersey Stadium on June 16, 2026 in East Rutherford.

Kylian Mbappe has revealed David Beckham has tried to persuade him to move to MLS.

The France superstar is in America for World Cup 2026 and is enjoying life across the pond, scoring twice in each of his country’s opening two Group I games against Senegal and Iraq.

Those goals moved Mbappe above Olivier Giroud as Les Bleus’ all-time top scorer, while he has now found the net 16 times at the World Cup - a tally beaten only by Lionel Messi.

The Real Madrid forward has put a difficult end to the domestic season behind him, having been booed by Los Blancos fans on his return from injury last month.

Supporters were angry that Mbappe went on holiday to Sardinia while recovering from a hamstring issue and a petition calling for the club to get rid of him received more than 95million signatures, despite the 27-year-old scoring 42 goals in all competitions last term.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star is under contract until 2029, but the unrest in Madrid could lead him to look elsewhere.

And with Messi thriving in America with MLS club Inter Miami, who are co-owned by Beckham, Mbappe revealed the England and Manchester United legend - who also had spells at Real and PSG - has already tested the waters.

Asked if he would ever move to MLS, Mbappe said: "We’ll see. David Beckham has mentioned it to me many times.

"American culture is different, there are no limits to ambition, and I like that."

Mbappe is still nine years younger than Messi was when he joined Inter Miami in July 2023 and is yet to win La Liga or the Champions League, so it would be a surprise if he moved to America in the near future.

However, he has already shown at this World Cup that he can be persuaded by English celebrities who are well-known in the US.

Mbappe celebrated his first goal in France’s 3-1 win over Senegal by pretending to play an imaginary flute, which was suggested to him by chat show host James Corden when the striker appeared as a guest on his After Hours show.

Les Bleus’ skipper is set to return to action on Friday night, when he goes up against fellow superstar forward Erling Haaland in France’s clash with Norway to decide who finishes top of Group I (8pm BST kick-off).
