Kylian Mbappe defends Idrissa Gueye amid social media abuse over tackle that sparked PSG injury fears

Kylian Mbappe has defended Paris Saint-Germain teammate Idrissa Gueye after a training ground tackle injured the striker.

Ahead of Les Parisiens’ trip to face Real Madrid in their crunch Champions League knockout tie, the club were left fearing that Mbappe would not be fit.

Midfielder Gueye is said to have landed an accidental stud on the French star’s left foot, leaving him in pain amid concerns over his participation at the Bernabeu.

After the news broke, both Gueye and his wife were reportedly forced to suspend users’ ability to post comments on their social media pages - amid torrents of abuse.

Mbappe has since posted a message of support to his Instagram, with an image of himself and his colleague celebrating together on his Instagram Stories.

“All together, always,” he captioned the picture. “This is Paris.”

PSG were able to name Mbappe in their travelling party the day before the game. Mauricio Pochettino is expected to provide an update on his fitness in the coming hours.

The Frenchman scored the 94th-minute winner in the first leg between the two teams, handing the Ligue 1 leaders a 1-0 aggregate lead as they prepare to face their LaLiga counterparts in Madrid.
