Kyler Murray, other Cardinals team leaders have input in coaching search

The Arizona Cardinals cut ties with coach Kliff Kingsbury after four seasons, firing him after the team finished 4-13 in 2022. They begin the search for a new head coach.

Team owner Michael Bidwill was asked if quarterback Kyler Murray would help with the decision to hire a replacement.

While many outlets have used what Bidwill said to say Murray will help hire a new coach, it isn’t exactly the case.

Bidwill is indeed reaching out to Murray but he isn’t the only player.

“We’re in communication and we should be talking later,” Bidwill said Monday. “We’ve texted so either today or tomorrow. I absolutely want to get the input of our leaders, including Kyler, and I have spoken with a number of leaders already.”

As would be a good practice for any team, when looking for a new head coach, the organization is reaching out to its leaders, which includes Murray.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Bidwill will be taking names from the players and wish lists, but perhaps they have preferences.

Keim would joke about how much Murray would try to give input on free agents and draft prospects. Bidwill will take the information from the players and balance it with the goals he has.

What type of coach do they want? What was missing in the locker room with Kingsbury? What were good things?

These are all normal and valid things.

Murray is not picking the next coach. The team will simply let him give his thoughts and he won’t be the only player who gets to do that.
