Manchester City escaped the Bernabeu with the tie all-square after a pulsating draw with Real Madrid on Tuesday.
City travelled back to the scene of their heartbreaking semi-final elimination last year determined to make amends and made a good start of doing so as they dominated the first half. But then - completely against the run of play - Vinicius Junior fired a stunning shot into the top corner to give Madrid the lead.
The goal gave Los Blancos the ascendency and they continued to turn the screw in the second half, putting Pep Guardiola's side under immense pressure. But just like Madrid did in the first 45, City found a goal out of nowhere. The ball landed at Kevin De Bruyne's feet some 30 yards from goal and he thundered it into the back of the net with a real bolt from the blue.

City continued to come under the cosh but defended excellently and will return to the Etihad next Wednesday with the scores level. Here are five things you may have missed from the game.
Guardiola's warm welcome
The Bernabeu is famed for its hostile atmosphere from its raucous attendees and that's only increased with the redevelopment of the famous stadium. The atmosphere was building well ahead of kick-off as City's players were whistled onto the pitch.
The jeers and boos only got louder as the starting XI was read on the tannoy and when Guardiola's name was mentioned yet further decibels were found to welcome him. The Blues boss left Barcelona 12 years ago but his contributions in Catalonia won't be forgotten any time soon.
A poor touch from Pep
Usually, we'd be saying 'you don't lose it' after the ball drops in the vicinity of the City boss but maybe you eventually do after all. Early into the first half the ball floated over to Guardiola but things didn't go quite to plan.
Instead of trapping it with the usual grace he displayed as a player, it cannoned off his shin and down the touchline.
Ancelotti rage
It was hard to work out what had happened as everyone was focused on De Bruyne's celebration following his wonder strike but it soon became apparent that Carlo Ancelotti was furious and thought the goal should not have been allowed. He remonstrated with the fourth official and referee before being shown a yellow card, though he did say afterwards he didn't know why he was booked and thought it might have been shown to one of his substitutes.
Replays after the match got to the source of Ancelotti's rage. In a period of play before the goal, the Italian was convinced the ball had gone out of play on the right side of the pitch when Bernardo Silva stretched to keep it in. Possession changed hands a couple of times before De Bruyne finally thumped home but that didn't stop Ancelotti complaining.
Walker and Vinicius embrace
Though Vinicius showed his class on several occasions - with his stunning goal as well as his brilliant feet, lightning speed and excellent decision-making - he didn't get into too many dangerous positions in the City box as he was well marshalled by City's defence.
Kyle Walker had a particularly tough job in matching the speedster but did well against one of the best players on the planet. It was a battle that both of them clearly enjoyed and relished as at the full-time whistle, after the Madrid man had swapped shirts with fellow Brazilian Ederson, they embraced with a big high-10 and hug while wearing massive smiles. Who's ready for round two?
