Kyle Shanahan says he was a big fan of new WR Anthony Miller coming out of college

With injuries to skill players like Ray-Ray McCloud and Danny Gray, the San Francisco 49ers recently made an addition to the wide receiver room. After waiving Dazz Newsome, the 49ers signed veteran pass catcher Anthony Miller

When talking to members of the media after practice on Tuesday, Kyle Shanahan said he remembers studying Miller coming out of Memphis in 2018. The 49ers head coach said he remembers being a “big fan” of Miller in college.

I remember studying him coming out of college. We were big fans of him coming out of college. I remember him with the Bears doing some good things. But, we had a workout with guys. I didn’t even go out to it, but they were the most impressed with him out of the four people. I think we had four, maybe three. But, he’s a guy I remember being a big fan of in college.

With Miller still on the board in 2018, the 49ers opted to select fellow wide receiver Dante Pettis out of Washington with the No. 44 overall pick. Miller came off the board seven picks later to the Chicago Bears.

During three seasons with the Bears, Miller recorded 134 catches for 1564 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns. In 2019, Miller recorded a career-high performance with 140 yards on nine catches against the Detroit Lions. Miller has surpassed 100 yards receiving three different times in his career.

In 2021, Miller spent time with the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
