Kuwait’s Public Works Minister Survives No-Confidence Vote

Kuwait's Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Youth Affairs Ali Al-Mousa survived on Wednesday a vote of no-confidence.

The National Assembly renewed confidence in the minister after 22 members voted in favor out of the 43 MPs who attended the session.

National Assembly Speaker Marzouq al-Ghanim said on March 8 that 10 Kuwaiti MPs filed the no-confidence motion against Mousa.

This came after the parliament discussed in its regular session a motion filed against him by MP Abdullah al-Mudhaf.

The interrogation included failure to combat corruption at the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), indifference in dealing with the reports of monitoring institutions and fact-finding committees, indecisiveness in referring officials suspected of involvement in corruption to the concerned authorities, and abusing powers granted to the minister and senior officials.

Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah congratulated the minister and praised his performance during the democratic interrogation process.

Ghanim also extended his congratulations to Mousa, who thanked the members for renewing his confidence.

“I received many accusations during the discussion session, and I thank all who supported me,” he said following the vote.
