Kurt Warner Shouts Out 49ers’ Brock Purdy for Tying His NFL Record

Ever since Brock Purdy burst onto the NFL scene last year, the 49ers quarterback has been one of the best stories in the league. And because of his story and his play, it makes Monday’s shout-out from a Pro Football Hall of Famer all the more amazing.

Purdy was selected with the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft and now finds himself being mentioned in the same sentence as Kurt Warner, another quarterback who succeeded as the ultimate underdog.

To wit, Purdy became the second quarterback in NFL history to tally three games with three or more touchdown passes and a passer rating of 140 or higher in his first two seasons. Warner was the first player to do it, and he showed some love to Purdy for matching his accomplishment.

“Now Brock Purdy is taking my records… nothing is sacred anymore, haha! Well done young man, just one more example this kid can flat play football, hard to fall into things like this!!!” Warner wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Warner famously went from an undrafted free agent and grocery store worker to the NFL’s ultimate Cinderella story, winning two MVP awards and a Super Bowl. Purdy has a long way to go to be on Warner’s level in career accomplishments, but he’s off to a great start. Through nine games this season, Purdy has thrown for 2,329 yards and 15 touchdown passes with just five interceptions.
