Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Busanan Ongbamrungphan advanced to the last 16 round of the US$1 million All England Open Championships in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Kunlavut, who claimed his first World Tour title in Germany on Sunday, defeated HS Prannoy of India 21-15, 24-22 in the men's singles event at Utilita Arena.

The 19-year-old rising star fended off a game point in the second to seal his place in the last 16 against Jonatan Christie.

Christie survived a scare against Brice Leverdez as the Indonesian seventh seed needed three games to overcome the Frenchman, 21-9, 16-21, 21-17.

Earlier, Busanan breezed past Leonice Huet of France 21-9, 21-13 in the first round of the women's singles event of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.

Next for Busanan is a match-up against top seed and 2020 champion Tai Tzu-ying. The Taiwanese star was rarely troubled in her match against Lianne Tan of Germany, winning 21-12, 21-14.

Defending champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan also made it to the last 16. The Japanese fifth seed defeated Line Christophersen of Denmark 21-15, 21-16.

In the women's doubles, Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai progressed after the eighth-seeded Thais defeated Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance of Scotland 21-13, 21-19.

Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand, who claimed their first title of 2022 in Germany on Sunday, were due to begin their campaign against Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei of Malaysia.
