Kroger cashier wows customers with speedy service that keeps the queue to a minimum

When it comes to working in a shop, you're expected to serve customers with a smile while quickly getting them through the check out. That's exactly what one cashier has accomplished with his super speedy skills.

Esmeralda, who is known as @shaunicechrist on Twitter, has shared a video of a Kroger employee scanning her entire shop before she managed to get her money out.

The video has been viewed more than two million times - and has racked in about 2,300 comments from amazed users. In the clip, the shop worker is seen racing the 20-odd items through the check out and placing them into the bagging area - all in 21 seconds.

Esmeralda says: "This is the fastest cashier I know. He gets down. He don't play."

Commenting on her video, one user said: "He loves his job. You've got to respect him."

Another user added: "Walmart needs him because they never have a register open - and when they do it's some old lady."

A third user said: "I know he be tired as hell after work."

One more user added: "My boy trying to hurry up and get to the house. Last customer before I go home."

A couple of users identified the speedy server as Anthony from Clarksville, Tennessee, saying they recognised him instantly.

"Anthony is the fastest bagger in Clarksville. When I worked at Kroger and had to bag for him, it wasn’t easy," said one user.

Another user added: "The way I saw that head nod he does and knew this was Clarksville. Love him."

But Kroger workers are not the only ones expected to perform a fast and friendly service at their check outs, as Aldi staff have targets to meet with every customer.

A former employee, who worked in one of their American branches, explained how the supermarket times "every single thing they do" - and pulls them aside for a "chat" if they're not reaching their targets.

The worker said: "Aldi cashiers are supposed to scan 48 ipm (items per minute) in comparison to the 23 normal grocery stores require.

"We are also timed on how many seconds it takes us to get you to pay whether it be cash or card. We're also timed on seconds between customers, which is how fast we start scanning the next person's items."

However, the worker pointed out the flaws in this system, noting how their elderly customers struggle to keep up with their speed or "insist" on paying with cash rather than card.

"The reason this was so frustrating to me is because old people for some reason are allergic to coins," they added on Reddit.

"They have to pay exact or dig for the pennies so they don't get any back and it counts against an Aldi cashiers tender time.

"You have to be able to find the balance between meeting goals and still having good customer service.

"In six months, I had three customer complaints on me and I'm a pretty nice person actually."
