Aldi’s social media team have found themselves somewhat short staffed this weekend after ‘clocking off’ for the bank holiday. But a whole host of other household name brands have chipped in to help.
The supermarket left shoppers in stitches last week when they asked the likes of KFC, Co-op and Nandos to give them a hand with a Bank Holiday Monday shift on their Twitter account. They wrote: “We're officially clocking off this bank holiday, anyone wanna take over for the weekend? @Specsavers @NandosUK @KFC_UKI @coopuk #AldiAdminOOO ”

Several brands offered to lend a hand, including Morrisons, Mamas and Papas, and Yorkshire Tea.
And as Aldi’s admin takes a well deserved break from making us all laugh (probably to draft up some new jokes) Rowntrees, Mecca Bingo, Krispy Kreme and, as promised, Mamas and Papas are among the brands participating in a social media takeover to Aldi’s 619,600 Twitter followers.
Likely to have been a scheduled tweet, Aldi’s quick-witted admin posted this morning: “Thanks for your tweet. Aldi Admin is currently out of office. For anything urgent, please see @MeccaBingo, @MyUNiDAYS, @mamasandpapas, @krispykremeUK, @Rolo, @AfterEightUKI, @PoloMintUKI, @QualitySteetUK & @ROUNDTREES. Thanks, #AldiAdminOOO.”
Kicking off the bank holiday was Rowntrees, who asked shoppers what the most random thing shoppers have seen in the middle aisle, adding: “We’ll go first… a bee and insect house.”

Shoppers were quick to get involved, sharing their favourite Aldi Specialbuys including dog armchairs, a cat igloo and an ice cream maker.
Chocolate brand After Eight wanted a lie in this morning, but took one for the team covering for Aldi, writing: “Let's not talk about what happened After Eight last night... it was a struggle getting up for work this morning.”
Meanwhile UniDAYS prompted shoppers who love Aldi’s famously low prices to follow them for student discounts, with Polo Mint giving a shout out to bank holiday workers adding: “Need a mid-shift freshen up? We’ve got your back.”
Mamas and Papas stayed true to their word, standing in solidarity with parents who were up for the milk shift through the night, writing: “Shout out to all the Aldi Parents who were up at 2am, 3am and 5am and yet still chose to shop in Aldi on a Bank Holiday weekend.”

Naturally many of the brands couldn’t help but mention the supermarkets popular middle aisle finds with Mecca Bingo quipping: “Hit the Floor 74, Ask for More 34, Christmas cake 38, Droopy Drawers 44....BINGO? Nah, just another shop at Aldi”
Krispy Kreme asked shoppers: “You can put ANYTHING from the Aldi aisles through the glaze waterfall, what do you choose?”
One shopper suggested their Nutoka chocolate spread, while another recommended mini Cuthbert the Caterpillar cakes to be drizzled in sugary glaze.
Rolo and Quality Street continued to keep customers entertained, with Rolo joking: “ROLO-ing through the tills faster than the check-out staff can handle.” Quality Street completed the takeover with a sweet gesture, writing: “Trading quality tweets for Quality Street today only. Send us your best tweet and we might just send you a little something.”
Although Aldi Admin have taken the day off, shoppers can still pick up Specialbuys online and in store, with bank holiday hours stating stores are open until 8pm tonight. While is was great to see so many brands pull together to cover Aldi Admin’s shift, we can’t wait to have them back online tomorrow to update us on all the latest Specialbuys and offers.
