Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd doesn't believe Carl Starfelt's tackle on Fashion Sakala was a nailed-on penalty in Monday's pulsating 2-2 draw with Celtic.
Referee John Beaton pointed to the spot after the Swede's moment of madness with few complaints from those in green and white. But Boyd wasn't backed up by former Celtic standout Stiliyan Petrov who believes the man in the middle got it spot on. Petrov said: "This is the one that really blows me away. Definitely a penalty. Definitely a penalty."
But an unconvinced Boyd, followed on Sky Sports: "I'm still not sure whether it's a penalty or not. I think Sakala stands on Starfelt. I know he goes to ground and the rules are rules, but forget it, it's given. You've got to say, what a penalty kick it is. You stick it in the top corner." James Tavernier made no mistake from the spot to fire Rangers ahead before Kyogo grabbed a point for the champions in the final minutes.
And the former Ibrox striker, added: "Can Rangers beat Celtic in a game, yeah they could but Rangers' problems are elsewhere. Celtic just seem to be steamrolling over the top of every team in the Scottish Premiership. You felt as if there was any hope Rangers would have had to win today but they haven't, and for me it's over. To judge Rangers it was always going to be on today in terms of have they improved recently. They have there is no doubt about it but there is a long way to go.
"It was an underperforming Celtic squad that have came and left with a point. If you are going to challenge Celtic over the course of the season you are going to have to get player in."
