The celebrations were ecstatic as Rangers clinched a place in the Champions League for the first time in 12 years. But few were as loud as Kris Boyd as the Sky Sports pundit and former Ibrox striker showed exactly what it meant to him. Beaming Boyd screeched in the studio as he covered his old club’s match against PSV Eindhoven in Holland. Watching on the monitor, he brought news of Antonio Colak’s goal and roared “Get in, yasssss….. BOOM!” as he clenched his fist.
The presenter said: “I heard the loudest scream. I couldn't work out what was happening but then I realised Kris Boyd, despite the fact he’s hundreds of miles away, is celebrating a goal in Eindhoven.” And as the clock ticked down, he added: “ Celtic looked as if they had the Champions League all to themselves in Scotland. It doesn’t look as if it’s that way right now. It’s fantastic for Rangers Football Club, Giovanni van Bronckhorst. It’s been a long time coming but Rangers are one of the reasons we’ve got two teams in the Champions League.
“The scenes at the side of the pitch from Giovanni van Bronckhorst … they know how big this is. It’s huge for Rangers Football Club. A fantastic performance. The man who knocked them out 12 months ago has scored the goal to put Rangers in the Champions League and we’ll have two Scottish teams in the group stage for the first time since 2007.
