Kris Boyd admits he hopes Michael Beale follows in Ange Postecoglou's footsteps in making a move to the Premier League one day.
The Rangers hero insists he'd be worried if the Englishman's ambitions were not to test his managerial skills at the highest level of the game.
Ultimately, if the 42-year-old does one day earn a move to an EPL club, then Boyd believes he'll have done a good job at Ibrox.
And that's why he believes it would be good news if Beale were to make that step up, much like Postecoglou has done from Celtic to Tottenham earlier this week.
He wrote in the Scottish Sun: "Three of the last five Old Firm bosses have departed for the Premier League. And I would be delighted if Michael Beale continued that trend.
"If the Rangers boss is the latest Old Firm gaffer to be poached by one of the big boys down south then it means he is doing a great job at Ibrox.
"I’d also like to think he would go with his head held high and with the best wishes of the supporters.
"Like it or not, the Glasgow giants are now a stepping stone to bigger and better things for both players and managers. It’s no more than a stopping-off point. Just ask the likes of Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard.
"And while I’m not holding my breath, maybe one day the Celtic supporters will realise that!
"Big Ange spent a period of time beating his chest and feeding fans the party line, which they duly gobbled up. Yet, anyone could see he was on his way once the Scottish Cup final was done and dusted. Good luck to him at Spurs because he has earned the move.
"I genuinely hope he succeeds as it can only reflect well on our game. Given the riches on offer you can’t blame players and managers wanting to test themselves in the most competitive league in the world.
"I’m sure that is Beale’s ultimate goal as well. In fact, if he wanted to stay at Rangers for the rest of his career then I would be worried.
"If you have anything about you as a sportsman then you want to reach the top. And I sincerely hope the Rangers gaffer has aspirations to manage a massive club in England.
"Of course the Old Firm are huge institutions and it takes a special person to perform there.
"But, a dose of realism is required these days when it comes to how long you stay.
"Still, Beale is just in the door and he has a massive job on his hands rebuilding this Rangers squad."
