Kris Boyd brands Rangers SFA plea 'waste of time' as club told 'move on' from Alfredo Morelos call

Kris Boyd is asking Rangers why they would 'waste their time' by appealing to the SFA over Alfredo Morelos' disallowed goal against Celtic.

The former Ibrox hitman gave his incredulous reaction to the call during half-time analysis on Saturday as he watched Michael Beale's men come up short against their bitter rivals. It was a derby thriller to remember with a key flashpoint in the first half coming when Morelos tussled with Celtic defender Alistair Johnston before poking the ball home but the goal was chopped off by referee Kevin Clancy.

What followed was a wave of criticism from those of a Rangers persuasion including commentator Ally McCoist who begged VAR official Nick Walsh to come up to the gantry and explain the decision. Beale also claimed post-match he wasn't best pleased with VAR before Sky Sports News reported the Ibrox side will 'write to the SFA' to seek clarity over the decision.

But Boyd is calling that venture futile and asks where football is heading, but says the call could have gone either way.

He said when quizzed on Rangers' 'appeal' on Sky Sports: "I don't know what for, what are they going to write back? Seriously, why waste your time, it is done and finished, move on to the next game. Listen, we have all had our say.

"You can understand but you worry where the game is going if that is a free-kick. It's good play by Alistair Johnston I must say, he knows he's caught underneath the ball, both are having a little tug of their shirts, and he decides to throw himself forward.

"Clancy has bought it but for me, and it would be the same at the other end, if we are chopping goals off for that, I wonder where football is going.

"It is good and clever a play by Johnston as the referee needs to make a decision. It's went against Rangers on this one but when you give the referee the opportunity to make a decision, it can go either way."
