KOLKATA: Police on Sunday arrested a former Aliah University student 48 hours after a viral video surfaced in which he is seen abusing vice chancellor Md Ali, issuing life threats and even manhandling him.
The VC was rescued by other students and had to be admitted to a private hospital off EM Bypass where he was treated and discharged.
In the video shot on Friday night, 26-year-old Giasuddin Mondal, along with his aides, is seen accosting Ali in his chamber at the varsity’s New Town campus. The video showed them raining abuses and threats. The agitators alleged that the Research Eligibility Test (RET) evaluation criteria were tweaked to help certain undeserving students. RET is held for the university’s PhD course.
