KOLKATA: Large parts of New Town were waterlogged in a barely 45-minute sharp spell of rainfall on Friday, leaving residents fuming that the civic officials had learnt nothing from last year’s flooding.
Shocked at how streets went under ankle-deep water after such a brief spell of downpour, many shared photos and videos of waterlogged stretches near DLF I, BD Block, AB Block, Streets 165, 168 and 174. “At least if not London, Newtown can be called Venice. 1 hour of rain and this is the situation. No cleaning of the drain. No lesson learnt from last year,” wrote resident Aditya Ghosh Roy on Facebook. Another Facebook user, Oindrila Banerjee, posted: “... There is smart street, smart management but people are suffering like this.”
