KOLKATA: Three prominent city schools — all under same management — announced on Thursday that they were "shut until further notice", in wake of ongoing tension between a section of parents and school authorities over fees, throwing into uncertainty future of nearly 7,000 students who are on their rolls.
Parents, who had gone to drop off their wards, and students themselves were shocked to see closure notices pasted outside gates of GD Birla Centre for Education at Regent Park, Ashok Hall Girls' Higher Secondary School at Minto Park and Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar on Ironside Road. Ashok Hall, however, permitted Class XII students to sit for practical exams. The fate of two other schools — Birla Bharati and Little Step, also under same management — isn't clear, with some claiming that those, too, had been similarly shut.
