Knifeman Kai Green who chased a policeman down and stabbed him four times has been cleared of attempting to murder him. A jury delivered its not guilty verdict at 2.15pm on Thursday (October 27).
Green showed no emotion during the hearing but people in the public gallery were crying. Green plunged a knife into Sergeant Daniel Griffin's right buttock twice, delivering a third blow with the blade to an unknown spot on his body, and then, totally off the ground, forced the knife into the brave officer's chest.
Sgt Griffin was saved by his layers of clothing, including a stab vest, and the blade did not penetrate his skin on April 25 this year. Green, 18, of Larkfield Road, Nuthall, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article - but denied attempting to murder the officer, who had been on mobile patrol before the attack in North Sherwood Street, between Forest Road East and Mansfield Road in Nottingham city centre, with a colleague. Sgt Griffin and a colleague had spotted Green standing near a parked Range Rover and subsequently went to approach him.
