Kjetil Knutsen in blunt Rangers address as Bodo Glimt boss swerves Gio van Bronckhorst succession theory

Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen has played down speculation linking him with a move to Rangers with uncertainty over Gio van Bronckhorst 's future.

The Dutchman has has flown home despite doubts over whether he will continue in the top job at Ibrox when the Premiership action returns following the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with the club trailing Celtic by nine points and fans calling for the board to take action. The boss is set to meet with the Ibrox powerbrokers following a dismal draw with St Mirren leading the club into the break, but no date has been set by Rangers.

The disappointing campaign has led to rumours ramping up over a potential succession plan, with highly-rated Knutsen being touted as one of the potential frontrunners for the hot seat should Van Bronckhorst leave the club. He has led Bodo to back-to-back Norwegian titles while also making his mark on the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Knutsen fielded questions over the Rangers hot seat from the Norwegian press. However, he insisted he was in no rush to walk away from the Eliteserien champions.

He said: "Firstly, I have Morten Wivestad as my agent. I have been clear that now I stand with my head in a pressure cooker, and things that are outside Bodo/Glimt I am completely uninterested in. I do not want any enquiries, and I do not answer any telephone calls. I only have 100 per cent focus on Bodo/Glimt."
